Understanding your calculation

Method, example and limitations

How the calculation works

A resistive voltage drop follows Vdrop = current × circuit resistance. Conductor length, cross-section, material and return path affect resistance.

Example to check

A total circuit resistance of 0.2 Ω carrying 10 A gives a 2 V drop. On a 12 V supply that is about 16.7%.

Before using the result

Installation design must consider temperature, cable ratings, protective devices and applicable electrical rules. This estimate is not an installation safety assessment.
