Understanding your calculation

Method, example and limitations

How the calculation works

URL component encoding percent-encodes reserved or unsupported characters. Encoding an individual query value differs from encoding an entire address.

Example to check

A space in a URL component becomes %20 under percent encoding. An ampersand within a value must be encoded so it is not mistaken for a parameter separator.

Before using the result

Avoid repeated encoding and decoding. Encoded text is not encrypted, and sensitive data in URLs can appear in logs and browser history.
