Understanding your calculation

Method, example and limitations

How the calculation works

Take-home pay subtracts modeled taxes and payroll deductions from gross earnings. Select the correct tax year, filing settings and pay frequency before comparing checks.

Example to check

If a gross paycheck is $2,000 and total deductions are $400, the amount received is $1,600. A tax estimate still depends on which deductions and income rules are included.

Before using the result

This tool does not prepare a tax return or model every state, credit or deduction. Employer withholding and final annual tax liability are different quantities.
