Molarity Calculator

Calculate molar concentration, solute mass, solution volume, and laboratory dilutions (M₁V₁ = M₂V₂) with standard chemical compound presets.

Common Chemical Presets:
g/mol
Required Solute Mass

14.61 grams

14610 mg (0.25 moles)
Total Solute Moles 0.25 mol 250.00 mmol
Molecular Weight 58.44 g/mol Daltons (Da)
Millimolar (mM) 500 mM 0.5 mol/L
Final Volume 500 mL 0.5 L

🧪 Lab Bench Protocol: How to Prepare this Solution

  1. Accurately weigh 14.61 g (or 14610 mg) of solute using an analytical balance.
  2. Add the solute to a beaker containing approximately 400 mL of deionized water (or buffer).
  3. Stir with a magnetic stir bar until fully dissolved. Adjust pH if necessary.
  4. Transfer quantitatively to a graduated cylinder and add solvent to reach the final 500 mL volume.

Understanding your calculation

Method, example and limitations

How the calculation works

Molarity is the number of moles of solute divided by solution volume in liters. To convert a mass to moles, divide grams by molar mass in g/mol.

Example to check

0.5 mol dissolved to a final solution volume of 2 L gives 0.25 mol/L.

Before using the result

Use final solution volume, not just solvent volume. Purity, hydration state, temperature and laboratory measurement uncertainty can affect preparation.
