Understanding your calculation

Method, example and limitations

How the calculation works

Mass can be calculated from density and volume using mass = density × volume. Use a density appropriate to the selected material and conditions.

Example to check

A density of 2 g/cm³ and a volume of 100 cm³ correspond to a mass of 200 g.

Before using the result

Mass is distinct from weight as a force. Approximate material densities and incomplete volume measurements can dominate the uncertainty.
