Understanding your calculation
Method, example and limitations
How the calculation works
In torque-and-RPM mode, mechanical horsepower is approximately torque in lb-ft × RPM ÷ 5,252. Other modes use empirical vehicle-performance estimates.
Example to check
A torque of 100 lb-ft at 5,252 RPM gives approximately 100 mechanical horsepower.
Before using the result
Engine output differs from power at the wheels. Quarter-mile estimates depend on vehicle weight and testing conditions; they do not replace dynamometer measurements.
