Understanding your calculation
Method, example and limitations
How the calculation works
A weighted grade multiplies each score by its weight, adds the products and divides by the total weight. Final-grade scenarios solve for the remaining assessment score.
Example to check
Scores of 80 and 90 with equal weights average 85. With weights 25% and 75%, they average 87.5.
Before using the result
Verify whether grades are percentages or points and whether weights total the intended amount. Rounding, extra credit and grading policies belong to the institution.
