Understanding your calculation
Method, example and limitations
How the calculation works
GPA is normally credit-weighted: add grade points multiplied by course credits, then divide by total included credits. Weighted and unweighted scales are different systems.
Example to check
An A worth 4 points over three credits and a B worth 3 points over one credit produce (4×3 + 3×1) ÷ 4 = 3.75.
Before using the result
Institutions differ in grade scales, repeated-course treatment and honors weighting. A computed GPA or standing label is not an official academic determination.
