Understanding your calculation
Method, example and limitations
How the calculation works
A percentage discount reduces the original price by price × discount ÷ 100. Successive discounts act on the already-reduced price, rather than simply adding rates.
Example to check
A 20% discount on 150 saves 30 and leaves a price of 120 before tax. Two successive 10% discounts leave 81% of the original price.
Before using the result
Check whether tax and shipping are included. A discount followed by the same percentage increase does not restore the starting price.
