How This Calculator Works

This online basic desk calculator provides fast, reliable, everyday arithmetic computation with an LCD display screen, memory registers, running history tape, percentage tools, and reciprocal/square/square root functions.

📐 Order of Operations & Memory Functions
PEMDAS / BODMAS | M+ adds to memory, MR recalls memory, MC clears memory

Key Mathematical Rules & Properties

Memory Clear (MC) & Recall (MR)

MC resets the stored memory register to zero. MR places the currently stored memory number onto the active display.

Memory Add (M+) & Subtract (M-)

M+ adds the current number to the stored memory total. M- subtracts the current number from memory.

Clear Entry (C) vs All Clear (AC)

C clears only the current number being typed on screen without losing the ongoing chain calculation. AC wipes all pending operations and registers.

Keyboard Shortcuts

Type numbers 0-9 on your keyboard or numpad, +, -, *, / for operations, Enter or = to calculate, and Esc or Backspace to clear.

✎

Worked Example: Sequential Calculation with Memory

Calculate (15 × 4) + (24 × 3) using memory registers.

  1. Type: 15 × 4 = (gives 60). Press M+ to save 60 to memory.
  2. Type: 24 × 3 = (gives 72). Press M+ to add 72 to memory (now 132).
  3. Press MR to recall total from memory: 132.
  4. Press MC to reset memory register.
Final Answer: 132

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the percent (%) button work?

When used after multiplication (e.g. 200 × 15 %), it calculates 15% of 200 (which is 30). When used after addition (200 + 15 %), it adds 15% to 200 (230).

Can I reuse answers from the calculation history?

Yes! Simply click on any entry in the Calculation History sidebar on the right to load that result directly back into the calculator display.

Is there a limit to how many digits can be displayed?

The LCD display automatically handles integers and decimals with up to 12 significant digits and switches cleanly to scientific notation if numbers exceed display capacity.

What is the "±" button used for?

The ± key toggles the algebraic sign of the current number between positive and negative.

Understanding your calculation

Method, example and limitations

How the calculation works

Basic arithmetic applies addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Check whether the interface evaluates operations immediately or follows expression precedence.

Example to check

6 × 7 = 42, and 42 ÷ 6 = 7. The expression 2 + 3 × 4 equals 14 under standard precedence.

Before using the result

Division by zero is undefined. Repeated decimal operations can accumulate rounding, and a display may omit digits retained internally.
